Privacy Policy

Hypnogram is built to keep your music and your art on your device. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This policy explains exactly what is — and isn’t — processed, and where.

Who this covers

This policy covers the Hypnogram app for iPhone and iPad, Hypnogram for Android, and this website, hypnogram.app. Both apps process your music and art on your device. The Android app has no AI director and makes no network requests.

What stays on your device

• The audio tracks, cover images, logos, photos and videos you add.
• The visuals, analysis (tempo, beat and Stem FX envelopes) and every video you export — rendering happens on your device.
• Projects you save, which are stored locally inside the app.

We don’t upload, store or see any of it.

The optional AI director (iPhone and iPad)

If you use the Director while online, the app sends a request through our server (hypnogram.app), which passes it to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate the edit. It contains only:

• the text prompt you type;
• a short, non-identifying summary of the song — its tempo, length and how its energy changes over time (for example “drop at about 0:44”);
• the cover’s dominant colours as colour codes, how many images you’ve added, and the app version.

Your audio, your images, your videos and any account or device identifier are never sent. Our server doesn’t store the request or the answer; to prevent abuse it keeps the connection’s IP address in memory for about ten minutes to limit how many requests can be made, then forgets it. The provider’s handling of the request is governed by its own privacy policy. Offline, the director composes the edit on your device and nothing is sent. If you don’t use the director while online, nothing leaves your device.

Permissions

• Files and photos: you pick tracks, images and videos with the system pickers, and the app only receives the items you choose; it can’t browse your library. For example, a video you pick as the background of a Vinyl Studio spin video stays on your device.
• Saving to Photos: when you tap Save, the app asks for permission to add the exported video to your photo library. It can’t read your photos.
• Microphone (Live mode, optional): only if you switch Live mode to Line in, the app asks for microphone access so the visuals can react to your mixer, audio interface or the room. The sound is analyzed on the device in real time and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. You can turn access off any time in Settings.
• External displays (Live mode): when you connect a projector or screen, the app shows the visual on it. Nothing is sent over the network for this.

What we don’t collect

• No accounts, names, email addresses or passwords.
• No location, contacts, advertising identifiers or device fingerprints.
• No analytics or tracking SDKs, and no ads.

This website

hypnogram.app uses no cookies and no analytics. The live demos on the home page run entirely in your browser: images, videos, logos and audio you drop there are processed locally and never uploaded. Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) processes standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver and protect the site.

The legacy web studio at /studio is an experimental browser prototype, separate from the apps. If you export a video there, the audio, cover image and recorded visual are uploaded to our hosting provider’s storage so the file can be assembled, and its optional AI features send your text prompt to OpenAI and fal.ai.

If you write to us, we use your message and address only to reply.

Children

Hypnogram is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
