Hypnogram turns a track and your cover art into a beat-reactive music video. Here’s how to get going, a few pro tips, and how to reach a human.

Quick start

1. Open Hypnogram and add your track (Choose file, or Try demo) and your cover.
2. Start from Templates, Vinyl or the ✦ Director, or tap Surprise me.
3. Switch between the Templates, Create, Vinyl and Live tabs at the bottom.
4. Create: Director (describe the vibe, then tap Compose), Text, Shuffle, Look, Tune.
5. Templates: fill in Your details (title, artist, date, venue) once, then tap a card; Next tries another.
6. Vinyl: Studio sets the shot, size, position and finish; the background button switches between colour, blur, gradient, visualizer and your own photo or video (long-press it to choose one); the format button picks 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1; Text adds your words.
7. Export (top right): the format (Portrait, Landscape, Square, Custom or All 3 formats), the quality (Standard, Max or VJ ProRes), 60 fps, the length, Seamless loop and Include audio.

Pro tips

• Seamless loops snap to whole bars at your track’s tempo and blend the ending into the start. Files are named with the BPM and bar count, ready for DJ and VJ sets.
• Spotify Canvas: export 9:16 with Seamless loop on, audio off, and a length between 3 and 8 seconds.
• Resolume, VDMX and other VJ software: use the VJ ProRes tier, a ProRes 422 .mov with PCM audio that scrubs and loops without gaps. Files are large. Devices without a ProRes encoder export an all-intra HEVC .mov instead.
• LED walls and projectors: choose Custom and enter the exact pixel size (240–4096 px per side).
• Every platform at once: turn on “All 3 formats” to render 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1 in one go.
• Stem FX (on by default) lives in the Layers panel (under Tune): the kick punches the camera, the snare pops, hi-hats sparkle and vocals swell the glow.
• Tap the visual to hide the controls for a clean preview.
• Save your work as a project to pick it up again later.

New in 1.4

• Gig loops: eight psychedelic visuals made for looping at gigs: Aperture Stack, Rorschach Bloom, Ebru Engine, Moire Engine, Doyle Bloom, Circle Limit, Cryptex Shaft and Skyline Hourglass. Each one is built from your cover, hits on every kick and loops seamlessly on 8 or 16 bars with no crossfade. Export the loop, or play it from Live mode, whose pads now start as gig loops.
• Live mode: tap Exit at the top left to leave (with a quick confirm, so a stray tap can’t end your set).
• Dim Flashing Lights / Reduce Motion: with either one on, the gig loops calm their flashes.

New in 1.3

• Templates: 25 one-tap edits made for your track, in 6 categories: Out Now, Spotify Canvas, Vinyl, Gig Flyer, DJ/VJ loops and Teasers. Each one starts on your song’s drop, lands on whole bars at the real tempo and fills in your title, artist, date and venue.
• Vinyl Studio: the spin video everyone posts. Press your cover onto a record, set its size and position, lay it over your own photo or video, add your text in the font you like and export 1:1, 9:16 or 16:9, or start from the Spin Print template. Turntable, sleeve-reveal and needle-drop shots too, with picture disc, splatter, marble, gold and glow pressings.
• Live mode: a gig console with scene pads that switch on the bar, auto mode, blackout, flash, strobe, freeze, tap tempo and Line In from your mixer or mic. On iOS 27, send a clean picture to a projector or LED wall while your phone stays the controller (earlier versions mirror the phone’s screen).
• Immersive Worlds: Chrome Relic, Laser Cathedral and Prism Bloom, real-time 3D built around your art.

Troubleshooting

• Export stopped or failed: keep Hypnogram open while it renders (it works frame by frame) and make sure there’s free storage; long, high-quality exports need room for the finished file plus working space.
• Can’t save to Photos: allow Hypnogram to add photos in Settings › Hypnogram › Photos.
• The Director without a connection: it composes on your device when you’re offline; online it uses our server, and only your prompt and a few numbers about the song are sent.
• Line In doesn’t react: allow microphone access in Settings › Hypnogram › Microphone. The sound is analyzed live on the device and never recorded.
• A track won’t open: try a common format such as MP3, M4A (AAC) or WAV.

Devices

Hypnogram runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The Android app, for Android 8.0 or later (OpenGL ES 3.0), is coming soon to Google Play. The Android app has the visuals, Vinyl Studio shots and pressings, Spin Studio, Stem FX, Logo FX, film looks, kinetic titles and seamless loops; Templates, Live mode, the AI director, VJ ProRes and custom sizes are on iPhone and iPad.
